The study aims to describe the Umbu Races, one of the main rituals practiced in the Katokinn village, in the municipality of Pariconha, Alagoas, Northeast Brazil, addressing its meanings and importance for ethnic affirmation and a fundamental element in the recognition process. of the said ethnicity. It is intended to identify how this activity is currently described, perceived and expressed by some leaders. The methodology was based on qualitative research, review of ethnographic literature by authors such as: Amorim (2010), Barreto (2010), Batalha (2017) and Peixoto (2018), fieldwork: research and participant observation, conducting interviews with some female leaders. The research result points to a discursive weakening of the interviewees, opposing what happens in practice. Concluding that as leaders, practitioners and connoisseurs of the Ritual and primarily responsible for its execution over the years, when speaking of it, their reports do not correspond to what they do and represent.Downloads
