Abstract

With this article we intend to reflect on the challenges and possibilities of use of the Xucurus Museum of History, Arts and Customs, an institution located in Palmeira dos Índios/AL, as a didactic resource to help in the study of local history. Thus, we seek to analyze the museum institution as a place of memory, perceiving the multiple discourses and intentions that shape it, pointing out possibilities of theorizations and methodologies applicable to museums as a place of memory. Our study was based on bibliographic research, anchored in readings about museums, history teaching, studies/teaching of local history and discussions about the history and memory of Palmeira dos Índios. To this so, we are based on the theoretical assumptions of authors as; Chagas (2009), Meneses (1994), Nora (1997), Oliveira (2016), Torres (1973), Barbosa (2006), Peixoto (2019), among others.
