With this article, we intend to reflect on the challenges and possibilities of use of the Xucurus Museum of History, Arts and Customs, an institution located in Palmeira dos Índios/AL, as a trainer of didactic resources to help and facilitate the understanding of what historiography has conceptualized as "study of local history". Thus, from dialogues with other areas of scientific knowledge, we seek to analyze the museum institution cited as a place of memories, perceiving the multiple discourses and intentions that shape it, pointing out possibilities of theorizations and methodologies applicable to the use of the museum as a producer of knowledge and studies applicable in the teaching(s) of History. We emphasize that our reflections were based on documentary and bibliographic research, anchored in readings about museums, teaching history, studies/teaching of local history and in discussions on History and memory in Palmeira dos Índios. To this do so, we are based on the theoretical assumptions of authors such as: Ramos (2004), Chagas (2009), Meneses (1994), Nora (1997), Oliveira (2016), Torres (1973), Barbosa (2006), Peixoto (2019), among others. It is expected, therefore, that studies on museological institutions and school daily life will give rise to other historiographical debates, considering the performances of actors who have been subalternized in local social arrangements, such as the Xukuru-Kariri indigenous, for example.
