This article presents part of the research developed as part of the academic career of the first author, an Indigenous Pataxó from southern Bahia, within the scope of the Degree in Intercultural Training for Indigenous Educators, with a qualification in Mathematics. We report on transformations experienced in the economy of the mother indigenous village Barra Velha, in the territory of Barra Velha, municipality of Porto Seguro, in the south of Bahia. We aim to discuss how research happened in times of social distancing, explaining how learning in the intercultural training course favors the development of research in indigenous communities, recognizing indigenous protagonism and authorship. The article presents insights into the transformations of the local economy during the COVID-19 Pandemic based on data from interviews with four indigenous people from this village who worked in the main activities that generate income for families in the community. In addition to the interviews, we discussed the introduction of Google Forms and used and analyzed the responses to the questionnaire. Based on the data presented in this article, the resilience of the Pataxó people from the Barra Velha village stands out in their search for survival and strengthening their cultural practices during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
