The south of Bahia includes a region of intensive conflict over land involving various sectors of (regional- repetitivo) local society and the indigenous peoples who live in this region, with emphasis on the ongoing disputes over the demarcation of the Tupinambá de Olivença Indigenous Land. This Indigenous Land, recognized and delimited by the indigenous agency (FUNAI), through the bond that the Tupinambá people of Olivença attribute their bond with the territory to the colonial village Nossa Senhora da Escada, parish of Ilhéus, in the 17th century. This article aims, therefore, to present and discuss the historical trajectory of the Tupinambás with the processes of territorialization, that is, to understand in the long term the relationship of this People with the colonial and nation-state construction projects, and the subsequent processes of dispossession and struggles for territorial recovery. In order to do so, I will use varied sources and the bibliography used to study the Tupinambás of Olivença in different contexts of their historical trajectory.
